Charity bake sale

We have teamed up with the Royal Association for Deaf people (RAD) to fundraise for them throughout 2018 and 2019. Last year, we held a range of fundraising events for them in our office, including a Grand National Sweepstake, a Halloween dress up day, a Christmas raffle, and a Christmas jumper day. We even opened an office tuck shop with all profits going to RAD! The money we raise for RAD supports their incredible cause, assisting members of the Deaf community across a range of areas. This can include help with independent living and finding employment, as well as providing Deaf awareness training to a number of sectors, creating a more accessible future for their members.

Last Friday, we held a bake sale to kickstart our 2019 fundraising for RAD. Our previous charity efforts have shown us that we seem to be most successful when food is involved! We asked the Mary Berrys of the office to bake something at home to bring in, while those of us who are a little less capable popped to Sainsbury’s over the road to buy some ready-made goodies. The resulting spread was something we were all proud of!

We managed to raise £37.08 directly from the sale of baked goods but the real game-changer was the raffling off of this beauty baked by our Head of Customer Relations, Karen.

Our colleagues bought raffle tickets in the hope of winning the entire salted caramel cake, and the lucky man was our Senior Finance Analyst, Alan. Being such a kind person, Alan left the cake in the kitchen for us all to share, and I can confirm it was absolutely delicious. This raffle raised £63.14, giving us a grand total for the day of £100.22! We are proud of our colleagues for baking such delicious and aesthetically pleasing cakes and for being so generous – both with providing goodies and with buying them for charity.

Other highlights include Energy Analyst David’s rhubarb and custard cake, and Energy Auditor Gabriela’s traditional Romanian panettone.

We’re now planning our next fundraising event for RAD. There’s talk of a Eurovision sweepstake and a sponsored Pyjama Day, but if you have any other fun ideas then let us know! We’re looking forward to working more with RAD throughout the rest of the year and raising money for such a worthy cause.
